We encourage families to celebrate in their BEC. This Holy Week and Easter we joined the Mission Parish in Hapid / Ifugao Province. We focused on one story: The Last Supper. The children bible (God speaks to his children) gave us an easy access in english and ilocano. First we tried to make the copy (xerox) alife: can you identify the table, the chalice and bread and the people involved?
…than we copied everything on a piece of plywood with an LCD (alternatively you can copy it with an overhead projector). The youth from Hapid and the students from Sienna College / Manila became very excited! Because this is so different to a coloring page – this was really XXL
…and as soon as we had the paint (on water base) and brushes out, the youth took over. They patiently colored everything from the children bible. The black outline was definitely the most challenging part! Other members of the community passed by and praised their work. So they were encouraged to come up with following idea…
How familiar are you with the Stations of the Cross?
Did you notice that it begins with the Last Supper?
The girls felt confident enough to bring their painting to the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday. By the way: that started in Landing and not in Hapid, so they carried it there!
We had a colorful contribution to the Stations of the Cross – and because the girls were so enthusiastic, they joined the Black Saturday session again and painted an Easter Bible Story for the Easter Vigil! And this is not the End of the story: the Sienna College Students might continue to use the Children Bibles with the Visual Aids and Actions Songs provided by the Family and Life Office – we are looking forward to see more involved youth and families in Hapid!
How about your Family and Life Ministry? If you need some inspiration or assistance, do not hesitate to contact us via your Mission Rector! Join our next Family and Life Core Team Assembly in Teng Ab: April 15-17!
The kids and youth in Sadanga and Anabel inculturated the christmas story. Togehter with some young catechists we were able to prepare for christmas with selected bible stories (books and visual aid were provided by Church in Need / more books available in the mobile library: story boox). The kids enjoyed singing action and christmas songs. You find a video on vimeo!
We appreciated to “open door” of Fr. William, who welcomes the kids and youth in his convent. We saw potential to turn this seasonal activity into a continues or occasional kids activities by the youth ministry. We hope that families support it, so that they can grow at the same time – this story will be continued!
The families in your Mission Parish would like to celebrate the liturgical year (e.g. lent or easter) and inculturate some biblical stories? Contact the education offices (catechetical and Family & Life) to get more inspirations and assistance.
Children Bibles will be distributed to all Mission Stations this December. These Children bibles are available for catechists in english, tagalog and ilokano. All the pictures in the bible stories are available as visual aid posters and coloring pages. So, all catechists start equipped in the Year of the Family and Eucharist, to share bible stories creatively with children and their families.
When the new catechestical material was introduced during the Family and Life Conference in Teng-Ab, many volunteers suggested to have not only this material for catechists available but for each family as well. We will follow up this request during the Year of the Family 2016.
The volunteers will now return to their respective Mission Stations to team up with the catechists and include the visual aid and bibles in family activities as well: parent-child encounter, family celebrations, bible week…More ideas to enrich the family or community can be found here – check on the sunday connection (suggestions per sunday reading), how to raise faith filled kids or what to do during the liturgical year (advent, lent…).Beside the many activities of the catechetical office, there are more copies in the Family and Life office to borrow for large groups.
F&L ministers from Sadsadan MS met for a training and an exchange. They learned more about opportunities, how to enrich families with the mobile library (story boox). Additional handouts for lenten season were distributed.
If F&L ministers would like to get an update or new inspirations for their apostolate, please get in touch with us via your Mission Station Rector.
Families from different BEC in Alfonso Lista MS meet for a Family Encounter. The kids enjoyed extra activities and the whole community tuned into action songs. Parents shared about building family as a domestic church. Here you can see them exchanging, how they spend their time. Work consumes so much time, but how about time for the children, the community, God?!?
If you are interested in a Family Encounter in your MS or BEC-cluster, please contact us via your Mission Station Rector.
