Basic Counseling Skills Training (part 2)/ September 2 – 4 / Teng-Ab

09.2016CounselingPartII

Some have natural counseling skills, but usually we have to practice and continue training, to be effective counsilors to couples, young mothers, stressed parents, disoriented youth….

This is a follow-up opportunity for all F&L Core Team members, who joined the Basic Counseling Skills Training (part 1) in Banaue or Bauko. We accept beginners as well, who would like to learn and experience basic counseling skills, to improve their service to families in need in their respective Mission Parish or BEC.

Dr. Alda Perlita Polestico from the Family pastoral Counseling Association Philippines will be with us, giving us more insights and challenging us on our basic counseling skills. Don’t be afraid, take courage and take this challenge, because the couples, young mothers, stressed parents, disoriented youth… need you and you need at least basic counseling skills to journey well with them!

This year we train F&L ministers in all Mission Parishes, make sure your join the team and the traning (ask your Mission Rector for more details or contact the F&L office in Teng-Ab):

MISSIO delegation

WMS.plakat 2016

The people of the Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe welcome our guests: the MISSIO delegation from Germany. Our friends are from the MISSIO Munich headquarter and the Diocese of Speyer. They will spend with us a couple of days and we proudly include them in our mission, reaching out to our BECs.

The Youth Ministry will invite them to the BEC Talubin / Bontoc and share their vivid spirit. The Catechetical Ministry accompanies our guests to Sadanga, to join the parish fiesta first and than visit the BEC of Anabel. The Family and Life Ministry will journey with them to Aguid / Sagada, to learn more about the efforts strengthening families, a BEC in itself.

MISSIO supports since many years the pastoral programs of the Vicariate. It is the first time, that they visit us in the Cordillera. Bishop Valentin Dimoc will be their guest during the World Mission Month Campaign in Germany this October. We appreciate the solidarity expressed though the financial support, their continous prayers and now even their visit in our Vicariate. We hope that the coming exchanges will strengthen this partnership across more than 10.000km.

AMORIS LAETITIA

08.2016AmorisLaetitiaBaguio

Most Rev. Gilbert Garcera, Bishop of Daet gave an orientation on Amrois Laetitia, the new Document of Pope Francis, during the Northern Luzon F&L meeting in Baguio.

The Apostolic Vicariate was represented by a small delegation and brought home many inspirations and insights.

It was stressed, that each Diocese should have a F&L program including a) community / group organizing, b) formation, c) advocacy, d) media and e) prayer.

We realized that F&L Core teams in some of our Mission Parishes are already doing a good job, for example:

a) the Pastoral Care for Children program (PCC) headed by CWL in Paracelis, is reaching out with monthly homevisits to 126 needy families

b) the Couples for Christ (CfC) in Lagawe offer their couple formation program in various BECs to ordinary community members

c) a training on responsible parenthood and All Natural Family Planing is scheduled for November 4 – 6 in Teng-Ab, to be inspired by Archbishop Ledesma from Cagayan de Oro, how to be more pro-life active

d) we hope that this blog and facebook helps to keep volunteers and padis better informed about our ongoing training and other activities

e) we have a wood carven Holy Family journeying with us to the different Mission Parishes and continue to tune into the Holy Fathers prayer for families.

You would like to see that AMORIS LAETITIA makes a difference in your Mission Parish too? You would like to serve couple and families?

Join the Family and Life Core Team of your Mission Parish and be trained this year (ask your Mission Rector for more details or contact the F&L office in Teng-Ab):

Couple Formation / Lagawe

07.2016CoupeFormationLagawe Family and Life Core Teams and members from Couple for Christ from different Mission Parishes meet in Lagawe for a training on Couple Formation. This was a great opportunity for experienced formators and interested couples, to learn more about the Popes Document “Amoris Laetitia” presented by Fr. John Habawel. The participants learned new methods, how to make couples communicate with each other using Bible Verses, ice breaker activities or games.

On Saturday we learned more about three different couple formation programs: a manual by Fr. Larry Tan SDB on Couple Encounter, the CFC programs on Couple Formation and a compilation of various activities of the vicariate F&L office.

Sr. Flora from Banaue was delighted to see the CFC of Mountain Province and Ifugao offering their support and training beyond their Mandated Organisation and helping in the vicariate Couple Formation of F&L.

Fr. Castor celebrated the culminating mass with us and send the participants back home to their respective Mission Parishes and BECs, so that we serve together the families with their many challenges.

counseling training / Bauko

Several F05.2016counselingGroupBauko&L Core Teams from Bontoc District attended a training on basic counseling skills in Bauko May 26-28. Dr. Perlita Polestico from the Family Pastoral Counseling Association Phipippines (FPCAP) enriched and challenged our family companions.

“No: counseling is not advice giving!””Do not mirror your own proplems in your counselee!” “This is a face-to-face session!”

05.2016counselingSettingBaukoOur F&L Core teams mastered their first counseling session: one counselor, one counselee and one observer. And a lot to digest and learn.

Dr. Pearl offered to follow up the basic counseling skills for people helpers. So we are looking forward to another training on vicariate level later this year (date and venue will be announced).

counseling training / Banaue

Several F&L Core teams of Lagawe District attended a training on basic counseling skills in Banaue May 24-26. Dr. Pearlita Polestico from the Family Pastoral Counseling Association Philippines (FPCAP) introduced them to the nature of counseling. She did demonstrate several counseling sessions with the participants. So we got some good samples how to start the conversation in a counseling setting.

All participants were active during a practicum, either as counselor or counselee or as an observer. It was very enlightening and challenging at the same time. Manang Blandina summed up: Obviously our couples and families need counseling. If we would like to accompany them, we need more training in counseling!

Dr. Pearl offered another counseling seminar/workshop later this year. We will provide more details ahead of time!

PCC volunteer training / Paracelis

04.25.2016PCCtrainingThe Pastoral Care for Children Program started in Paracelis with 26 volunteers from 3 BECs.

04.25.2016BECorganizing

We could see the fruits of many years BEC-organizing.

Our people are used to work in partnership and to team up.

Formation bears fruit after continues (in)formation at the grassroot level and leads by and by to transformation.

04.25.2016SrTerezThe hands on approach of Sr. Tere helped a lot, to get familiar with the different training topics around parenting and health.

The three teams will start to reach out to the families and organize celebrations of life, to gain first experiences.

We are looking forward for the next follow-up in August…

Core Team Assembly / Teng-Ab

04.16.2016FrHarry

F&L Core Teams including members of Knights of Columbus, Couples for Christ, Catholic Women League and others gathered in Teng-Ab for an assembly.

We started with inculturation: Documentation on the Bontok Culture (walang rape sa bontok by Habi Kolektib) and had a good sharing on good values in other cordilleran tribes – seems that the Kankanay and Ayangan are not so different in terms of good family and community values! We are left with the challenging question: how to pass on our good traditional values in todays globalized world to sustain healthy and inspiring families / communities?!?

04.16.2016CouplesforChristOur companion throughout the assembly was the “Final Report of the Bishops Synode on Family: The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Contemporary World”.

Our speakers were: Fr. Harry, Fr. Ed and Fr. Marcs.

Please tune in Fr. Marcs song for the Year of the Family: HOME

The next F&L Core Team training will be on counseling per District in the last week of May (we will soon finalize venues and dates).

Pastoral Care for Children

04.18.2016PCCIn line with the CBCP Episcopal Comission on Family and Life our Bishop Valentin Dimoc welcomed the PCC (Pastoral Care for Children) program in the Apostolic Vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe.

Sr. Tere shared the approach of PCC: information and formation will lead to transformation, so that children may enjoy life and life in all its fullness in the Cordillera.

04.18.2016PCCparacelis

AMORIS LAETITIA

The Joy of Love…” – from Pope Francis wants to reach all the couples and families! In his new letter (apostolic exhoration) he wants to encourage us, to take care of our families.

Maybe you want to start with a brief summary. The document itself can be explored by selected chapters. We will provide later opportunities to study and learn from that new papal document.

As a preperation we will focus first on “The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Contemporary World” (The final Report of the Synode of Bishops) during our Core-Team Assembly.

Join us from April 15-17 in Teng-Ab!
